  • Description

Product Description :

Ceramic foam filter with a reticulated foam structure based upon silicon carbide are for the filtration of spheroidal graphite iron (SG iron), flake graphite iron (grey iron), malleable iron and all high or low alloyed cast irons as well as for aluminum and copper based alloys. Applicable on high volume repetition moulding lines as well as for components produced in a jobbing type environment.

Benefits :

Ceramic Foam Filters are applied in order to remove undesired impurities from the molten iron, these include slag from the melting process or from tapping and metal transfer or reaction products generated by the magnesium treatment process. In addition, ceramic foam filters prevents the passage of partially dissolved inoculant or moulding sand from the runner system into the casting cavity.

Application :

Runner systems incorporating ceramic foam filters can be significantly simplified in comparison with conventional systems. The filter itself, according to the specific application, can be located vertically, horizontally or in a horizontally inclined position. The filter area required for a particular running system is determined by a number of factors relating to moulding and melting processes, and also the type of ceramic foam filter selected. The number and size of the filter(s) has to be calculated for each individual running system. Similarly, the filter porosity is selected according to the specific alloy being poured. In case of mould inoculation a special pouring system design should be used. For correct filter positioning it is essential to use the appropriate standardized filter.
